Program in Brazil
The Linkage Program in Brazil is a collaborative effort with the Universidade de São Paulo and Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. The main goal of the program is to promote a better understanding of the relationship between law and democratic values in the United States and Latin America.

Groups of Yale Law students will travel to Brazil to work on a wide variety of projects, including publication of law journals, development of academic and scholarly programs and seminars, and conducting research for NGOs involved with human rights issues.

First-, second-, third-year and graduate students are invited to apply. Portuguese is highly desirable but not essential for those who are fluent in Spanish. Travel and living expenses will be funded by the Yale Law School. Students live with local families or university students. A commitment is required only for the month of August. In the past, student participants have worked in the United States for a large portion of the summer; some traveled throughout Latin America under a Schell Fellowship

Are you interested in spending August, 2007 working with students and faculty at law schools in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro? To apply, provide a current resume, a law school transcript, and a brief statement (no longer than three double-spaced pages) that explains your interest in the program and the relevance of your participation to your future career plans. Applicants should clearly indicate their country of preference, if any. Before applying, we suggest you schedule a meeting to discuss the program with Jhon Carmona. Mr. Carmona is this year’s program leader. He can be reached at Jhon.Carmona@yale.edu or at (203) 436-3534. Four copies of your application should be delivered to Mr. Carmona’s mailbox in the Law School mail room no later than Wednesday, October 31. Selections will be announced by mid November.
