The retreat brings to life the vision of Robert Cover, a Yale Law School professor and social change activist. Cover’s vision encompassed four principal goals: 1) to connect students with common goals and interests from across the country; 2) to create a network of professors, peers, and practitioners for students headed toward careers in public interest; 3) to provide a forum for discussions about change and growth pertaining to public interest law; and 4) to provide a platform for change in the public interest sector and perceptions about public interest law.

What do we do for three days in New Hampshire?!? On Friday afternoon/Saturday, participants will choose from a number of workshops on range of public interest law topics and issues and we'll have a panel and some speakers. Saturday afternoon we'll have some fun at the Retreat center... hopefully in the snow. Sunday we'll have a speaker and panel before ending mid-day. The retreat center has snow tubing, cross country skiing, and hiking opportunities... hopefully we'll have snow like last year. On Friday and Saturday evening, UCONN Law students will plan some fun for everyone. Over the course of the entire Retreat, there will be lots of conversations in front of the fire. Because one key goal of the conference is to facilitate networking and building connections and relationships that will last, a good amount of time will be set aside for that.
What should I bring? You don't need much... think casual. It'll be warm inside (especially near the fire) and cold outside (it's February/March in NH). You'll need a sleeping bag or blanket, towel... We'll post a packing list closer to the Retreat.
Is it fun? Yes.
I want to attend the Retreat but I don't live near New Hampshire... how do I get there? There are lots of options. If you fly into Hartford, CT or Manchester, NH, we can help you figure out a carpool arrangement. Southwest Airlines flies into both airports.... Email Ben Smilowitz at smilowitzlaw@gmail.com for travel/cost saving tips.
Trains run regularly from NY/DC to Springfield, MA -- we can arrange carpools from Springfield, MA, as well.
You can drive/carpool to the conference site. If you have any seats in your car, let us know!! We'll try to match you up with someone looking for a ride.
