Food Safety Law Project
The China Law Center will be assisting the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration in the development of food safety risk assessment law and policy. Chinese food safety is in a critical state. The food industry and the government face the monumental task of restoring consumer faith in the food they buy for themselves and their families. One of the most innovative new tools that the 2009 Food Safety Law created is the use of risk assessment to determine the severity of foodborne illness and contaminates. The Center will host a visitor from the Shanghai FDA in the Spring to support the development of the risk assessment ideas in the Food Safety Law into a workable framework that ensures that a risk is adequately evaluated, communicated to relevant stakeholders, and managed to prevent further damage to human health.
