Notification

The Law School Admissions Office will notify you by email when we receive your application and when your file is complete. Please do not telephone to inquire about the status of your application. Frequent phone and email inquiries delay consideration of applications.

The most efficient way for you to learn whether we received your application is to check the LSAC Online Services and see if Yale has downloaded your application.

The amount of time that it takes to process an application varies throughout the admissions cycle. December and January are peak application times, and applications submitted at this time take longer to complete. It can take 4-6 weeks for LSAC to process your materials and deliver them to us.

Please note: We recommend that you send letters of recommendation through the LSAC Letter of Recommendation Service. If your letters of recommendation are being sent directly to Yale Law School, LSAC will not send your LSDAS report until October 15.

Applications are considered roughly in the order in which they are completed. We recognize that you worked hard on your application and we want to give each one the attention it deserves. Accordingly, our evaluation process takes a bit longer than most schools.

Notification of a Decision

If you are selected for admission, we will notify you immediately. Because our class size is so small, we have to be careful not to over enroll early in the season. Please do not become discouraged if you do not receive a decision right away. Very few applicants receive a decision before early March. The Admissions Office will make every effort to send applicants a decision by mid- to late-April. We appreciate your patience in this process.

Please note: We will not provide decision information over the phone. If you are faced with a deposit or scholarship deadline at another school, please email us with your name, LSAC Account Number, telephone number, the name of the school, type of deadline, and deadline date.

Most years the Law School keeps a short waitlist. Admissions offers from the waitlist can be made as early as June and as late as registration day.
