YLS Professor Susan Rose-Ackerman Lectures in Europe and Latin America
Yale Law School Professor Susan Rose-Ackerman, Henry R. Luce Professor of Jurisprudence, had a busy May and June lecturing in Europe and Latin America. She presented a George L. Mosse Lecture at Humboldt University in Berlin on “Corruption: Greed, Culture and the State.” The lecture will be translated into German and published as part of a book on the theme of corruption. She also gave more informal versions of the talk at Transparency International’s offices in Berlin; at the Istituto Italiano de Scienze Umane in Florence; at the Faculty of Jurisprudence of LUISS Guido Carli University; and at a conference on “Establishing Political and Economic Liberty” in Lima, Peru.
Two of her commentators in Peru were Enrique Pasquel ’09 LLM and Alfredo Bullard ’91 LLM. In Peru, she was named an Honorary Professor by the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences and presented a talk on “Regulation and Public Law in Comparative Perspective.” She also spoke on that topic at two law schools in Rome at lectures organized by Justice Sabino Cassese, and in Santiago, Chile, at the launch of the Centro de Regulation y Competencia at the University of Chile. The Center was founded by Santiago Montt ’04 LLM, ’07 JSD, and during her visit, Professor Rose-Ackerman participated in a ceremony in honor of Montt’s book, State Liability and Investment Treaty Arbitration (Hart 2009).
Back in New Haven, she presented “The Law and Economics of Bribery and Extortion” to the Comparative Law and Economics Forum, an international group of scholars that met this year at Yale Law School. Yale Law Professor Henry Hansmann ’74 and John Armour ’96 LLM, Professor of Law at Oxford University, are among the members of the group. One of the invited presenters was Mariana Prado ’02 LLM, ’08 JSD, who teaches at the University of Toronto Law School.
Finally, Professor Rose-Ackerman and Peter Lindseth discussed their forthcoming edited volume, “Comparative Administrative Law,” at a meeting of the Administrative Law Forum in Quebec City.
