Endowment Funds
Yale Law School’s endowment — which had a market value of $1.2 billion in June of 2008  and which is separate from the endowment of Yale University — provides approximately 45 percent of the School’s annual revenues.  YLS currently has numerous endowed funds, which support professorships, research activities, scholarships and loans, lectures and fellowships, prizes, facilities, and special programs.

There are a number of opportunities to establish endowed funds that will benefit the School in perpetuity. These include:

Endowed Opportunities

Opportunities to Preserve Preeminence in Teaching and Scholarship

Professorship: A gift of $5 million will name a fully tenured faculty position.

Visiting or Clinical Professorship: A gift of $3 million will name a visiting or clinical faculty position.

Professorial Research Fellowship: A gift of $1 million will name a member of the Yale Law School faculty as a Professorial Research Fellow.

Research Fund: A gift of $500,000 will create an endowed research fund.

Providing Unparalleled Opportunities for Students

Career Options Assistance Program (COAP): A gift of $10 million will name the COAP loan forgiveness program and ensure our graduates are not constrained in their career choices.

Summer Public Interest Fellowship Program: A gift of $7.5 million will name the program that provides so many students with a unique and enriching perspective.

Graduate Program: A gift of $7 million will name the L.L.M. program at Yale Law School that trains future leaders from around the globe (students will be named scholars, tutors and program director will be named).

Litchfield Fellows: A gift of $250,000 creates a named fund targeted for a strategically important need, such as globalization, faculty, clinical programs, financial aid, and curriculum development.

Scholarship Fund: A gift of $100,000 will create a scholarship fund to support talented and deserving students at the Law School.

Summer Public Interest Fellowship (SPIF) Fund:  A gift of $100,000 will create a fund to support Yale Law School students doing summer public interest work.

Career Options Assistance Program (COAP) Fund: A gift of $100,000 will create a fund to provide loan forgiveness to Yale Law School graduates pursuing careers in the public interest.

Pursuing Thoughtful Innovation in Law

Dean’s Project Fund: A gift of $5 million will create a fund for new initiatives or secure the future of proven programs.

Student Activities Fund: A gift of $100,000 will create a fund to support innovative or ongoing student projects, research or activities.

Facilities Opportunities

Sterling Law Building Academic Wing: A gift of $50 million will name the Sterling Law building Academic Wing.

Courtyard: A gift of $4 million will name the Yale Law School Courtyard.

Dining Hall: A gift of $3 million will name the Yale Law School Dining Hall.

Periodical Room and Library Source Cite Room: A gift of $2.5 million will name the Periodical Room and the Library Source Cite Room.

Classrooms: A number of different classrooms are available for naming at $1 million or more.

Foreign and International Reading Room: A gift of $1 million will name the Foreign and International Reading Room.

Sterling Law Buildings Preservation Fund: A gift of $100,000 will create a fund to maintain and improve the Law School’s buildings and grounds.

Technology or Library Acquisitions Fund: A gift of $50,000 will create a fund to purchase new technology or books/new media/materials for the Yale Law School Library.

Library Carrels: A gift of $25,000 will name adjoining carrels in the Library.

Current Use Opportunities

Named Scholar Program: An unrestricted gift of $10,000 (or $50,000 pledge payable over five years) will name a student receiving financial aid at Yale Law School.
