Reuters COO Stuart Karle to Discuss Impact of U.K. Phone Hacking Scandal
Stuart Karle is chief operating officer of Reuters News at Thomson Reuters, where he oversees operations, logistics and safety, in addition to coordinating Reuters’ partnership with support teams from HR, marketing, legal, facilities and finance.
Prior to joining Thomson Reuters in April 2011, Karle was general counsel for a privately held investment company with hundreds of millions of dollars in assets, and a boutique media practice focused on online publishers. From 1992 to 2008, he was based at Dow Jones and Company, serving as counsel and then vice president and general counsel of The Wall Street Journal. Prior to joining Dow Jones and Company, Karle was a litigator for Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher; and Loeb and Loeb.
Karle is an adjunct professor at the New York University Law School, where he co-teaches media law, and a visiting professor at James Madison’s Columbia School of Journalism. He is a board member of a London-based group providing legal advice and training for lawyers representing media outside of Europe and North America, and a former chair of the Media Law Resource Center Committee on Internet Jurisdiction.
He graduated from Columbia University, where he was editor-in-chief of the Columbia Daily Spectator. He received his J.D. from the University of Chicago.
