The China Law Center Holds Workshop on Food Safety

On September 2-3, 2005, The China Law Center co-hosted a "Workshop on Food Safety Law" with the Office of Legislative Affairs of the State Council, the legal department of China's executive cabinet.  A delegation lead by Professor Paul Gewirtz discussed a draft revision to China's Food Hygiene Law.  The Center's delegation included Former Administrator of the USDA's Food Safety Inspection Service Thomas Billy, Former Deputy Commissioner at the Food and Drug Administration Michael Taylor, Professor at the University of Virginia Law School Richard Merrill, and Director of Food Safety for the Center for Science in the Public Interest Caroline Smith DeWaal.  The Center's Senior Fellow Jeffrey Prescott and Fellow John Balzano also participated in the Workshop.
