José Antonio Guevara

Third Deputy Ombudsman for the Federal District of Mexico
José Guevara is currently serving as the Third Deputy Ombudsman on the Commission of Human Rights for the Ombudsman Office for the Federal District of Mexico (Tercer Visitador General, Comision de Derechos Humanos del Distrito Federal). Previously he served as the Minister responsible for human rights in the Permanent Mission of Mexico before the United Nations Office in Geneva. He was Deputy Director General for Human Rights and Democracy at the Mexican Ministry for Foreign Affairs from 2004 to 2006. He was also head of the Human Rights Program of the Iberoamericana University and Regional Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Coalition for the International Criminal Court from 2004 to 2006. He holds a Ph.D. in law with a specialization in Human Rights from the University Carlos III of Madrid and a Law Degree from Iberoamericana University in Mexico City.
