Civil Liberties Online

The Information Society Project is dedicated to developing legal rules, policy frameworks, and technical architectures to promote civil liberties online. Much of the ISP's work has focused on protecting democratic values such as the preservation of individual privacy, freedom of speech, and the growth and spread of cultures on the Internet.

Projects have included research and symposia exploring the free-speech implications of filtering and rating systems, the privacy concerns related to the query data retention practices of Web search engines, the civil liberties implications of intellectual property protection, the management of personal reputation online, and the effects of the new digital communications technologies on globalization and the global flow of information.
