Oscar Vilhena Vieira
Oscar Vilhena Vieira is the Dean of the law school at the Getulio Vargas Foundation in Sao Paulo. Previously he founded and served as co-director of Conectas Human Rights. He taught Constitutional Law and Human Rights at the School of Law of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV/SP) and at the Catholic University of Sao Paulo (PUC-SP). He served as state attorney for Sao Paulo (1993-2003) and as executive secretary of the United Nations Latin American Institute in Brazil (1997-2002). He was the legal adviser for the Center for the Studies of Violence of the University of Sao Paulo (1990-1996) and executive secretary of the Teotonio Vilela Comission for Human Rights (1989-1990). He has a B.A. in law from the Catholic University of Sao Paulo; a LL.M. from Columbia University in New York; and a M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from the University of Sao Paulo. He has written several books and academic articles on human rights and constitutional law. Since 2004, Oscar has been Ashoka Global Fellow and Avina Leader, and a member of the board of several civil society organizations.
