She is a Senior Research Fellow with Innovative Lawyering and Copyright Africa and has taught Intellectual Property Law at the University of Nairobi as a visiting lecturer. She is also a regular contributor to the European Intellectual Property Bulletin. She has co taught at Queen Mary University of London where she was a Herchel Smith Scholar. She successfully defended her doctoral thesis in May 2008 and is due to graduate in December 2008 with a PhD from Queen Mary University of London. She has a Masters from the University of Stockholm and LLB from the University of Nairobi. She was also a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Tax, Intellectual Property and Competition Law, Munich from March until August 2006.
Miss Ouma , the Executive Director of the Kenya Copyright Board revived the hitherto inert Copyright office within the Department of the Registrar General laying the foundation for the present active Kenya Copyright Board. She has played a pivotal role in advising the Attorney General and other Government Departments on industrial property, copyright and related rights.
Ms Ouma is currently working on the ACA2K project among others. Her areas of interest include the copyright, access to knowledge, biotechnology and traditional knowledge. She has published several articles and presented papers at various fora around the world.
