Technical Services

The Technical Services department supports the teaching, learning and research mission of the Yale Law School by acquiring and organizing materials in all formats for the Library. It provides bibliographical access to the Library research collections and to remote electronic information resources determined to be of interest to their users. This effort includes maintaining and updating the online catalog (MORRIS), the timely acquisition, processing & cataloging of law library materials in all formats, and providing effective, accurate tools that assist the library's users in locating bibliographic information. Supporting these services offered by Lillian Goldman Law Library is a staff of 17 who divide their efforts into three major functions: Acquisitions Services, Serials Services and Cataloging Services.

Acquisitions Services, under the direction of Jo-Anne Giammattei, Manager of Acquisitions Services 432-1634, orders and receives new monographs, serials, and non-print material for the collection and processes invoices for the payment of all materials added to the collection. Staff in this unit also catalog new monographs.

Serials Services, under the direction of Anne Myers, Librarian for Serials Services 432-7440, processes all material received on a continuing basis. This includes periodical issues, newspapers, annual reports and the like. This unit is also responsible for periodical binding and actively claiming delinquent and missing issues. Serials Services also maintains faculty routing lists and MORRIS records for serial material.

Cataloging Services under the direction of Mary Jane Kelsey, Associate Director for Technical Services 432-1603, catalogs, classifies and performs subject analysis for monographs, serials and electronic resources added to the collection. This staff is also engaged in the continuous maintenance of the online catalog.

The Technical Services Department is administered by Mary Jane Kelsey, Associate Director for Technical Services 432-1603. Staff offices are located on L2 adjacent to Computer Services. Office hours are 8:30-5:00.
