The Foreign and International Law Collection is located on L1, UES, and LES of the Yale Law School Library. In addition to providing research assistance and instruction to our faculty and students, we collect foreign law (the law of countries other than the United States of America), comparative law (the comparison of law of different jurisdictions), transnational law (law of multi-country organizations, for purposes of this website -- European Union, African Union, etc.) and international law (the law between and among countries -- treaties, agreements, international court decisions, commentary, etc.).

We have a world-renowned international human rights collection, extensive European collections, and quickly-expanding Latin American and Asian collections. We are available to assist you in the F/I office on L1, Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm.

INSTRUCTION

These courses are designed and offered by library staff and have a foreign, international, and/or transnational focus:

Contemporary Legal Issues in Africa - Spring 2008 (1 unit, credit/fail) - Wed. 12:10 - 2:00pm

This reading group will meet once a week at lunchtime to discuss current events in Africa, with special emphasis on events that raise issues of international law. Each student will be given responsibility for a particular region of Africa and will report weekly on the important events in that region. One unit of credit is available for participants. Students who wish to do more extensive research into the legal issues in their particular region can make special arrangements for additional study, including the awarding of Supervised Analytic Writing credit. It is possible to take this course more than once. No previous background is assumed, only a general interest in increasing awareness of what is currently going on in Africa. L. Brilmayer and D. Wade.

Research Methods in International Law - Fall 2008 (1 unit, credit/fail) - TBA

There will be no paper or examination and grading will be credit/fail. The workshop will meet for five or six weekly two-hour sessions. M. Cohen, T.Miguel, J. Nann, C.Tubbs, D.Wade.
