This state-by-state grid will help get you started on your legal research. Don't hestitate to request reference assistance!  For mutli-state research, you may wish to consult a database such as Westlaw or LexisNexis, which will let you search across multiple jurisdictions.  In addition, Westlaw provides for its users a "50 State Surveys" database, which is based on the National Survey of State Laws.  Other works we recommend are: 

• Subject Compilations of State Laws: An Annotated Bibliography,  by Cheryl Rae Nyberg.
• Martindale-Hubbell Law Digest print and online (LexisNexis).
• State Constitutions of the United States, by Robert L. Maddex.

Notes about the grid:

• Under "State" heading is the beginning to the call number to where the print materials for that country are located in the Reading Room and on the Lower East Side (LES) of the Yale Law Library.  We collect a variety of digests and other legal materials for each state not mentioned here.
• The "Guide" column includes the location of a research guide if available from our library or on the web.
• The "YLS Statutes" will link you to the Morris record for the state codes.  Please note that we keep the current version of the annotated code in the Reading Room, but keep the superseded state codes on the Lower East Side of the Law Library and in microfiche.  We keep the state session laws in microfiche, and subscribe to an online collection with HeinOnline.
• The "YLS - Cases" will link you to the Morris record for state court reports.  It is strongly recommended to browse the stacks around the call number, as sometimes there are state reports that are difficult to identify using library catalogs.
• The "Lexis" tab will link you to state case, codes, regulatory materials, and bill history reports.  The "Westlaw" columns indicates the database shortcuts for state codes, cases, regulatory materials and legislative history.   There are other state materials on each website not mentioned here.
• "Public Sites" will direct to the free legal information available for the state on the web.
