Yale Law School Dean Announces Search to Fill Top Administrative Positions

Dean Anthony T. Kronman has launched a national search to fill two Associate Dean positions that will be available at the end of this academic year in June, 2002. The first position, Associate Dean for Finance and Administration, will fill the vacancy left by the departure of Stephen T. Yandle. The second position, Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid, is a new position brought about by an admistrative realignment that moved responsibility for the Yale Law School's Financial Aid Department from the Registrar's Office to the J.D. Admissions Office, currently led by James A. Thomas.

Steve Yandle, who has been at Yale Law School since 1985, will become the director of the New Haven Housing Authority, replacing Robert A. Solomon, clinical professor (adjunct) of law, who has been serving as the Housing Authority's interim executive director since 1999. During the course of Dean Yandle's 16-year tenure at YLS, he had principal responsibility for budgets, finance and administration, and oversaw the Law School's 5-year, $115 million renovation project, completed in the winter of 2001.

Jim Thomas, a 1964 Yale Law School graduate, has managed the J.D. admissions process since 1969, admitting over three decades of Yale Law School students. He will be expanding his portfolio of responsibilities in the future, focusing on special projects in the areas of community and alumni relations. Dean Thomas will also continue to provide guidance and counsel to the new Office of J.D. Admissions and Financial Aid as a new Associate Dean takes the reins.
