Dispute Resolution Nov. 30 Features Ohio State’s Ellen Deason

The Quinnipiac-Yale Dispute Resolution Workshop series continues Friday, Nov. 30, with a lecture by Ohio State Law Professor Ellen Deason on “A Framework for Comparison:  Building a Taxonomy of ADR System Analysis and Design.”  The lecture will be held in the Quinnipiac Law School Faculty Commons from noon to 2 p.m. Lunch will be served. Deason is the Joanne Wharton Murphy/Classes of 1965 and 1973 Professor in Law at Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law. She specializes in the fields of Dispute Resolution and Law and Science.

She has co-authored casebooks for Civil Procedure and Alternative Dispute Resolution and in 2005, was appointed Reporter for the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws drafting committee for a Uniform Act on Misuse of Genetic Information in Employment and Insurance.

Deason served as a law clerk for Judge Harry T. Edwards on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and Justice Harry A. Blackmun of the U.S. Supreme Court. She also was a legal assistant to Arbitrator Howard M. Holtzman, Iran-United States Claims Tribunal. Prior to attending law school, she worked as a marine biologist.

She holds a B.A. from Carleton College, an M.S. from Oregon State University School of Oceanography, and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.

The Quinnipiac-Yale Dispute Resolution Workshop is a collaboration between the two law schools to host lectures by distinguished scholars and practitioners in the field of dispute resolution. Some of the talks are held at the Quinnipiac Law School Faculty Commons and some are held in the Yale Law School Faculty Lounge.  The talks are structured to allow time for questions and discussion.
