Iraqi Refugee Crisis - Panel Discussion Feb. 21
February 13, 2008

The Schell Center for International Human Rights, together with the Council on Middle East Studies at the McMillan Center for International and Area Studies, will host a panel discussion on “The Iraqi Refugee Crisis: The Human Impact/The Human Response” Thursday, February 21, from 6:15 to 8:00 p.m. in Room 129.  The event is open to the public and will include a screening of the trailer to the documentary film, “Between Earth & Sky.”

“Between Earth & Sky” explores the human side of the Iraq war, which has produced the world's fastest-growing population of refugees and internally displaced people. Since 2003, some 2.2 million Iraqis have fled their homeland, and another 2 million are displaced within Iraq. The film, scheduled to be released this fall, offers a personal glimpse into the lives of Iraqi people struggling to find stability amidst the relentless chaos.

Panelists will include Omar Fekeiki, journalism student, University of California, Berkeley; Kirk Johnson, Refugee Advocate, The List: Project to Resettle Iraqi Allies; Kalyanee Mam, filmmaker, Iraq Refugee Documentary Project; and Sarnata Reynolds, Refugee Program Director, Amnesty International USA.
