Hillary Rodham Clinton ’73 Nominated for U.S. Secretary of State
If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Clinton will assume her duties in January. She will be the first Yale Law School graduate to serve as secretary of state since Cyrus Vance ’42, who served under President Carter in the late 1970s.
“Senator Clinton has deep foreign policy understanding, universal name recognition, and a profound commitment to restoring the United States’ reputation in the world for respect for human rights and the rule of law. It is most fitting that she will be the first Yale Law School graduate to serve as Secretary of State since Cyrus Vance,” said Yale Law School Dean Harold Hongju Koh.
