Graduate-Professional Intramural Sports are managed by Payne Whitney Gym and are open to students, faculty and staff of the University. IM sports have four different seasons, and offer activities such as volleyball, soccer, softball, basketball and ultimate frisbee. YLS offers free meditation sessions every Wednesday at 12:10 pm. Most sessions are led by Sue Neufeld, a Level 2 certified ParaYoga instructor. Meditation sessions are held in the Law School, and will resume for the Spring semester on January 21st.
If you're interested in starting a meditation practice, we invite you to try the 40 Day Meditation Challenge (Yale NetID required).
Learned Feet Running Club
Join Professor Ian Ayres for a weekly jog around New Haven. All paces are welcome to join, for as much of the jog as you'd like. During the Spring 2015 semester, the group will depart from the Grove Street entrance of YLS every Wednesday (when classes are in session) at 5:10 pm.
Workout Wednesdays and Fitness Fridays
The Law School offers a special group fitness class for the YLS community at no cost throughout the semester. Classes are held in the Payne Whitney Gym E/F exercise room on the 5th floor, unless otherwise noted. No prior experience is required for any classes. This semester we will be alternating classes on Wednesdays and Fridays. The tentative schedule for Spring 2015 can be found below.
Wednesday, January 21, 3:30 pm - Cardio Kickboxing
This class uses martial arts-based kickboxing techniques to increase muscular strength, cardiovascular conditioning, coordination, and balance.
Friday, January 30, 4:00 pm - Pilates
Join YLS student and Pilates instructor Karlanna Lewis for a special YLS Pilates class. Develop lean, long muscles, establish core strength and stability, and improve overall strength and flexibility.
Wednesday, February 4, 3:30 pm - Yoga Fusion
We are excited to offer another special class with acclaimed fitness professional Ellen Barrett this semester. Yoga Fusion seamlessly blends vinyasa yoga, standing Pilates and ballet conditioning for a zen-ful 60 minute total body workout. Invigorating movements, combined with a thoughtful mind/body connection, make Yoga Fusion ideal for all fitness levels.

This class uses free weights to help develop muscle and build strength.
Wednesday, February 18, 3:30 pm - Core & More
This class will focus on specific exercises that develop functional abdominal strength. The class will incorporate strength, stabilizing, and balancing exercises, along with cardio bursts to increase the heart rate.
Friday, February 27, 4:00 pm - Zumba
Guest instructor Andrea Dobras will lead us in a high-energy Zumba class - no dance experience required! Enjoy an upbeat, latin-inspired workout that will have you working hard and feeling good.
Wednesday, March 4, 3:30 pm - Step Aerobics
An energetic workout incorporating creative choreography on a step platform to keep your mind busy while your body is working.
Wednesday, March 11, 3:30 pm - Boot Camp: Upper Body Blast
High-intensity cardio intervals and strength training are combined for a total body workout, focusing on the upper body for the strength training intervals. Modifications will be available for all exercises to increase or decrease intensity as needed.
Week of March 16 - No Class (Spring Break)
Wednesday, March 25, 3:30 pm - Swing Dance
Come learn the basics of East Coast 6-Count Swing Dance, a social dance from the American Jazz Era, with instructors from Yale Swing & Blues. No partner or experience is necessary. Slippery shoes are recommended, but not required.
Wednesday, April 1, 5:10 pm - Running Club
Join Professor Ian Ayres and the Learned Feet Running Club for their weekly jaunt around New Haven! The group departs from the Grove Street Entrance.
Friday, April 10, 4:00 pm - HIIT It
Short on time? This 30-minute class will have you breathing hard and pushing yourself to your limits using high intensity intervals.
Wednesday, April 15, 3:30 pm - Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Practice Vinyasa Flow with Corinne Kentor from Yogis at Yale. "Vinyasa" means to link movement with breath. This style blends a flowing sequence of movements, each linked with breath, to cultivate balance, strength, flexibility, and focus in body and mind.
