Prosecuting 'Smart on Crime'
Prosecutors are charged with enforcing the law. In this workshop, University of Pennsylvania Law School Professor Stephanos Bibas, Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut Peter Jongbloed, Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins, and YLS Professor Kate Stith will explore the emerging framework of “smart on crime” as an alternative to “tough on crime,” which has dominated political rhetoric for decades. How do prosecutors talk about and apply this framework? What role do alternative problem-solving courts and the plea bargaining process play in prosecuting a smart strategy?
