Campaigning Against Dirty Fuels: An International Campaign Strategy
As conventional oil resources become harder to access, we have seen a rapid expansion of investment in unconventional sources across borders. Canadian tar sands, U.S. oil shale, and liquid coal resources are the new targets of development. NRDC has been instrumental in pulling together an international campaign to raise awareness about dirty fuels, to achieve internalization of the actual environmental and social costs of industries such as tar sands, and to build clean transportation solutions. Susan Casey-Lefkowitz, one of the architects of this campaign, discussed strategies to address this inherently international problem.
