Does the Constitution Exempt Religious Groups from Anti-Discrimination Laws?
Please join the Yale Federalist Society for a debate between UVA Law Professor Douglas Laycock and YLS Professor Christine Jolls on the Court's recent opinion in Hosanna-Tabor Church v. EEOC. In this case, the Court held that the First Amendment's Religion Clauses bar employment-discrimination suits brought by certain employees of religious organizations. The Court's decision was denounced by the New York Times editorial board, among others.
Professor Laycock presented the Church's case at oral arguments, securing a unanimous victory for the petitioners.
