Film Screening: New Year Baby
***Discussion with Director Socheata Poeuv afterwards.***

When: Tuesday, April 24th.  7 pm.
Where: Yale Law School Room 129

NEW YEAR BABY is the first documentary directed by a Cambodian-American
woman about her family's survival from the Khmer Rouge genocide.  It is a
story of love, joy, and pardon, told by Director Socheata Poeuv, who was
born in a Thai refugee camp on Cambodian New Year, as the family made their
way from Cambodia to America.  This documentary gives voice to her family's
story on their way to becoming Americans.
NEW YEAR BABY premiered at the International Documentary Festival in
Amsterdam in December 2006.  It won Amnesty International's "Movies that
Matter" Award, and has taken top honors at the San Francisco Asian-American
Film Festival and the AFI Dallas International Film Festival.  The film is
sponsored by PBS and will air in 2008.   Socheata has also taken the film to
Cambodia to begin outreach programs.  In Cambodia, her generation knows very
little about their history; this film will tell the story.
Sponsored by the Lowenstein Human Rights Project and the Pacific Islander,
Asian, and Native American Law Students Association (PANA).
