Innovative Practices
In the Top Ten Family Friendly Firms survey, firms were asked to provide information about particularly innovative family friendly policies. Here are some leading practices, many used by several firms:
- Mentorship & Counseling for Parents: Many firms organize mentorship groups to support parents with work-life issues; other firms provide work-life consultants for new parents
- On Site Childcare: A few firms provide on site, subsidized childcare for regular use; many more firms provide private lactation rooms for new mothers
- Gender Neutral Parental Leave: Some firms offer varying amounts of parental leave based on whether the attorney is the primary or secondary caregiver, regardless of gender
- Off Ramp / On Ramp Policies: A few firms allow attorneys to take up to three years unpaid leave, maintaining contact and facilitating an eventual return to the firm
