Regulating Hate Speech

Rodney Smolla is Dean and Professor at Washington & Lee University School of Law, and author of Free Speech in an Open Society.  He is an esteemed First Amendment scholar and has fought hate speech legislation in the courts, most famously in Virginia v. Black, 538 U.S. 343 (2003) where the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a Virginia cross burning statute because it defined the act of cross burning as prima facie evidence of intent to intimidate.

Alexander Tsesis is Assistant Professor at Loyola University School of Law, and author of Destructive Messages: How Hate Speech Paves the Way for Harmful Social Movements.
