Dean Robert C. Post ’77 to Deliver Prestigious Lectures at Harvard University

Robert C. Post ’77, Dean of Yale Law School and Sol & Lillian Goldman Professor of Law, will deliver the prestigious Tanner Lectures on Human Values at Harvard University on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 through Friday, May 3, 2013.

Post’s lectures are entitled “Representative Democracy: The Constitutional Theory of Campaign Finance Reform.” They will address the Court’s recent decision in Citizens United v. FEC. The event is presented by the Mahindra Humanities Center and the Office of the President at Harvard.

The first lecture on May 1 will discuss “Representation and Contemporary Democracy.” The second lecture on May 2 will focus on “Campaign Finance Reform and the First Amendment.” Both lectures will take place in the Lowell Lecture Hall beginning at 4 p.m.

The Tanner Lectures feature educational and scientific discussions relating to human values. They are presented at leading Universities throughout the world.
A seminar will follow the lectures on Friday, May 3, at the Thompson Room in the Barker Center. No tickets are required to attend the lectures, but seating is limited. 

Dean Post is an expert in constitutional law, First Amendment, legal history, and equal protection. He has written and edited numerous books, including most recently Democracy, Expertise, Academic Freedom: A First Amendment Jurisprudence for the Modern State (2012). He also publishes regularly in legal journals and various other publications. Post has an A.B. and Ph.D. in History of American Civilization from Harvard and a J.D. from Yale Law School. He is a member of the American Philosophical Society and the American Law Institute, and he is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

The Tanner Lectures on Human Values is a nonprofit corporation administered at the University of Utah. They are funded by an endowment and other gifts received by the University of Utah from Obert Clark Tanner and Grace Adams Tanner.
