Challenges for the European Union in 2024: Security, Geopolitics and Populism

This panel discussion takes stock of the multitude of challenges facing the EU in the coming year, both domestic and external. 

  • Professor Harold Hongju Koh (Sterling Professor of International Law, YLS) will be speaking about the seizing of frozen Russian assets in the US and EU. 
  • Professor Jan Wouters (Jean Monnet Chair & Professor of International Law, KU Leuven) will be speaking about populism in the EU. 
  • Ambassador Dirk Wouters (Belgian Ambassador to the US, 2016-2020) will be speaking about EU security and defense.
  • Consul-General Filip Vanden Bulcke (Belgian Consul-General to NYC, 2022-present) will be speaking about US-EU relations, economic security and China.

Professor Susan Rose-Ackerman (Henry R. Luce Professor Emeritus of Jurisprudence, YLS) will be moderating the conversation as a discussant.

A wine and cheese reception will follow from 5:15pm-5:45pm.
