Networks, Platforms, and Utilities with Professor Ganesh Sitaraman

Mar. 25, 2024
12:10PM - 1:15PM
SLB Room 129
Open to the Yale Community

The LPE Student Group and LPE Project present a lunchtime talk on Network, Platforms, and Utilities with Professor Ganesh Sitaraman, Director of the Vanderbilt Policy Accelerator for Political Economy and Regulation, and New York Alumni Chancellor's Chair in Law at Vanderbilt Law.

Recent debates in political economy have brought renewed attention to public alternatives to the corporation such as public investment programs and public options in industries from semiconductor manufacturing to healthcare. A leading scholar in the field, Professor Sitaraman will discuss his work in reviving the study of the law of public utilities, public service corporations, and common carriers under the new framework of networks, platforms, and utilities. Professor Sitaraman will present two applications of his framework: first, to the airline industry, which he has written about in his new book Why Flying Is Miserable and How to Fix It; and second, to social media regulation, where he will discuss forthcoming work as well as his recent Yale Law Journal article, "Deplatforming."
