Violeta Canaves is a J.S.D. candidate at Yale Law School, where she also earned her LL.M. degree in 2015. She is serving as a Tutor in Law for the 2016-17 academic year. In 2014-15, she was a Fulbright Scholar. Violeta has been an Assistant Professor of Constitutional Law at Universidad Nacional del Litoral in Santa Fe, Argentina, since 2010, and a Professor at the Masters' Programs in Constitutional Theory and Human Rights at Universidad Nacional del Litoral and Universidad de Palermo in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Violeta's academic interests include constitutional law, federalism, human rights, law and social movements, and women's studies. Her J.S.D. dissertation focuses on how relations and tensions between institutional understandings—at Federal and Provincial levels—and popular understandings about human rights shape the meaning of the Constitution in Argentina. Through the frames of federalism and dynamics of social mobilization, the dissertation undertakes a case study of the Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in Argentina, analyzing top-down and bottom-up incorporation processes of human rights.
