Career Programs & On Demand Videos

CDO hosts both interview programs and over 60 educational programs each year to provide students with a breadth of knowledge and opportunities across industries and practice areas. Additionally, CDO offers a series of programs specifically for 1Ls commencing in late October of their first year, which provides an introduction to career choices, resume and cover letter advice, a discussion of useful resources and interviewing tips.

Examples of CDO programs from past years include:

  • The Public Interest Celebration where students, alumni, and faculty come together to socialize, build community, and reflect upon what it means to work in the public interest;
  • The Heyman Colloquium which brings back current Heyman Fellows to discuss their federal government experiences;
  • The Law Firm Practice Area Forum in which attorneys representing different practice areas share their advice with YLS students in a table talk format;
  • Numerous business-related programs through which students learned about business opportunities for lawyers, such as consulting and finance opportunities;
  • Judicial clerkships programs such as the federal judges panel, trial court clerkships and more;
  • The Mentors in Residence program, through which dozens of alumni returned to the Law School to meet individually with interested students to discuss career paths;
  • The Mock Interview Program, which partners students with alumni to enhance students’ interview skills.

Panelists for many CDO programs include practitioners from across the country and around the world.  In addition to providing students with information about career paths, these programs are an excellent way to make connections with alumni who may be helpful in the future. Students also have the opportunity to take the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and attend related programming to learn more about their personality types to maximize their career satisfaction.

CDO also welcomes the opportunity to co-sponsor events with student organizations. View more details about Co-sponsoring Events with the CDO (PDF).  If you are interested in cosponsoring an event with CDO, please complete a Student Organization Cosponsoring Checklist

See the CDO Events Calendar in Yale Connect for upcoming events.
