Historian Ed Bonekemper '67 on False Rememberance of the Civil War

Historian Ed Bonekemper ’67 will appear on C-SPAN 3 (American History) on Saturday, April 23, at 6 p.m. EST. C-SPAN will telecast Ed’s recent sold-out Smithsonian presentation on “The Myth of the Lost Cause: False Remembrance of the Civil War.” That talk was based on his latest book, The Myth of the Lost Cause: Why the South Fought the Civil War and Why the North Won (Regnery History, 2015).

Bonekemper explains the major components of the Myth of the Lost Cause and critiques each of them. His major focus is showing that Southern states seceded and formed the Confederacy to protect slavery and white supremacy – not states’ rights.

After, and probably during, the telecast, this presentation can be viewed at www.cspan.org (type program no. “407279-1” in the video search box).

Ed is the author of six Civil War books and a frequent nationwide speaker at Civil War Roundtables and other historical organizations. His recent talk was his tenth appearance at the Smithsonian.

This presentation also is now available in an unedited format filmed with one camera by the Smithsonian.  It’s at: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/85049153
