Reena Kapoor, M.D., is an Associate Professor (Adjunct) of Law at Yale Law School and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, where she also serves as Program Director of the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship. She practices medicine and conducts research at the intersection of mental illness, violence, and the criminal justice system. Among other terms of professional service, Kapoor currently serves as Chair of the American Psychiatric Association’s Committee on Judicial Action and as President of the Association of Directors of Forensic Psychiatry Fellowships. She is also a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Forensic Psychotherapy. Kapoor was previously President of the Connecticut Psychiatric Society and the International Association for Forensic Psychotherapy. Kapoor has held a wide range of clinical, administrative, and public positions, including as Expert Consultant to the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Kapoor earned her B.A. and M.D. from Northwestern University. She completed residency training at the Harvard Longwood Psychiatry Residency Program and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine. Kapoor holds board certifications from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in general and forensic psychiatry.
