ISP Conference on Intellectual Property Law to Be Held March 28 and 29

Yale Law School’s Information Society Project will hold a conference titled Innovation Law Beyond IP 2 on March 28 and 29. This year’s theme is the role of the state in intellectual property law.

The conference aims to examine such questions as: What role should the state play in innovation law, and where and how does the state play that role? How do we design a state that is capable of responding to the challenge of innovating?

“The conference will bring together more than three dozen panelists and commentators from around the country to discuss the wide variety of institutions that foster creativity and innovation,” said Valerie Belair-Gagnon, Executive Director of the Information Society Project (ISP). “The Beyond IP conference provides an opportunity for legal scholars engaged in path-breaking research into the nature of innovation to publicize their work and receive feedback.”

Fred Block, professor of sociology at UC–Davis, will deliver the keynote speech. Yale Law School professors and alumni participating include William K. Townsend Professor of Law Ian Ayres ’86; Devan Desai ’97; Associate Professor of Law David Grewal ’02; Daniel Hemel ’12; Robert Heverly ’03 LLM; ISP Visiting Fellow Camilla Hrdy; Professor of Law and Faculty Director, Global Health Justice Partnership Amy Kapczynski ’03; ISP Resident Fellow Kate Klonick; Molly Land ’01; Peter Lee ’05; ISP Fellow Gabriel Michael; Lisa Ouellette ’11; Frank Pasquale ’01; ISP Knight Law and Media Scholar Esteve Sanz; and Lea Shaver ’06.
