Symposium on Contract and Fiduciary Obligation
July 9, 2015

The Center (working in conjunction with the Law Faculty of University College London) hosted a one-day symposium on the relationship between contract and fiduciary duties in London on Thursday, July 9, 2015. Hugh Collins (Oxford), Gregory Klass (Georgetown), Irit Samet (King's College London), Alan Schwartz (Yale), Emily Sherwin (Cornell), and Lionel Smith (McGill) presented papers. Commentators and other participants were drawn from across the UK and Europe, and included prominent academic lawyers, judges, practitioners, and philosophers.


Symposium on Private Law and Public Order
June 5 and 6, 2015

The Symposium re-convened the participants in the Spring 2015 Seminar in Private Law, together with some others, to take up the seminar’s themes over two days of discussions. Participants included Lisa Bernstein, Richard Brooks, Guido Calabresi, Hanoch Dagan, Avihay Dorfman, John Goldberg, Robert Hockett, Amy Kapczynski Roy Kreitner, Bertram Lomfeld, Daniel Markovits, David Owens, Tamara Piety, Annelise Riles, Henry Smith, Rebecca Stone, Rory Van Loo, Daniel Viehoff, and Benjamin Zipursky. 


Consumer Arbitration at a Crossroads
April 8, 2015

On April 8, the Center hosted a roundtable discussion of consumer arbitration at Yale Law School. Speakers included: Jerry Ganzfried, Partner, Holland & Knight; Deepak Gupta, Partner Gupta/ Beck; Ira Rheingold, Executive Director, National Association of Consumer Advocates; Jason Johnston, Henry L. and Grad Doherty Charitable Foundation Professor, University of Virginia School of Law; and Judith Resnik, Arthur Liman Professor of Law, Yale Law School.


International Investment Arbitration Roundtable
December 18, 2014

On December 18, the Center (acting together with Yale Law School's Latin American Legal Studies Programs) sponsored a breakfast roundtable devoted to current issues in international investment arbitration. Meg Kinnear (Secretary General of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes) delivered the principal presentation, and Donald Donovan (co-head of the International Disputes Group at Debevoise & Plimpton) and Hugo Perezcano Díaz (formerly head of Mexico’s Trade Remedy Authority) commented, and Andrés Jana (Head of International Arbitration Group at Bofill Mir & Alvarez Jana) moderated. Debevoise & Plimpton hosted the roundtable at its New York offices, and satellite sites participated by simulcast from Washington, Paris, Asunción, Lima, Quito, and São Paulo.
